Dance and the female form are the inspiration for my paintings. Whether it is the meditative stillness of the dream-like nude or the grace and power of the figure captured in dance: the images are vibrant in both energy and colour.
The freedom of colour and line in my paintings is intended to celebrate both the shape and fluidity of autonomy as well as the rhythm and passion of dance. The paintings are a place where balance and stillness meet the electricity of movement and desire and freedom meet dignity and control. I use the female form as a catalyst or symbol to visually capture states of being.
Each woman has a personality and identity which makes her both powerful and elegant. She is portrayed as sensual but has finesse and poise. The solitary figure of the female is representative of independence and as an independent force she has vitality, determination, energy and drive. She is a modern day saving grace, where both beauty and solace can be found.
